For the fifth post in our series, we’re delighted to spotlight Keiran Bennett, who undertook his FSDP flying scholarship at the RAF Halton Microlight Club in 2024, sponsored by the RAF Charitable Trust. Living with cerebral palsy, Keiran approached his scholarship with determination, honesty, and a deep desire to grow — and his reflections capture the heart of what FSDP is all about.
When we asked Keiran “What has flying taught you about yourself?” he shared this powerful insight:
“Flying has taught me a healthier way of attempting challenges. Having high standards has always been important to me, but I had a habit of downplaying the successes that I had. A key takeaway for me was that along the journey you’re going to have ups and downs and it’s important to celebrate the successes as well as setting reasonable expectations, especially when I’m having a bad day. Focusing on self-improvement rather than perfection and enjoying the journey on the way.”
Keiran’s words remind us that progress isn’t linear, and that confidence grows when we allow ourselves to recognise the wins — big or small. His time in the cockpit at RAF Halton helped him shift from perfectionism to self‑belief, from pressure to perspective.
His journey is a testament to resilience, reflection, and the transformative power of flight.
And we’re incredibly proud to have been part of it.
