Sponsor Spotlight: RAF Charitable Trust – Proud supporters of Flying Scholarships for Disabled People since day one

As we look ahead to RIAT26 at RAF Fairford, we’re celebrating one of our longest‑standing partners — the RAF Charitable Trust — whose connection to FSDP runs right back to our shared founders, Paul Bowen and Tim Prince. Their vision created both RIAT and FSDP, and that spirit of inspiration continues to shape lives today.

The RAF Charitable Trust is powered by RIAT, and it’s purpose is simple but powerful: to Promote the RAF and Inspire young people, including RAF personnel, to fulfil their potential in air, space and technology.

It’s a purpose that aligns perfectly with FSDP’s belief that aviation can unlock confidence, purpose, and possibility for disabled people.

One story that captures this impact is that of Lee Anson. After a spinal injury in 2015 left him paralysed from the waist down, Lee never imagined he would fly again — let alone achieve his Light Aircraft Pilot Licence.

Yet this is what he shared with us:

“To be a part of the charity is special enough, but to have the opportunity to go on and achieve my LAPL is something I’d never have dreamed of almost 3 years ago… Honestly, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

From first solo to theory exams to the moment he passed his skills test, Lee’s journey is a testament to what happens when opportunity meets determination — and when organisations like the RAF Charitable Trust choose to invest in human potential.

It feels especially meaningful that the Trust’s team works every day in Douglas Bader House, named after the inspirational figure whose legacy helped shape FSDP itself.

As we look forward to gathering again at RIAT26 (17th-19th July), we’re proud to celebrate this enduring partnership — one that continues to change lives, open skies, and honour the spirit of our founders.

Thank you, RAF Charitable Trust, for helping our scholars take flight.
