Rare Disease Day

Today, on Rare Disease Day, we stand with the millions of people around the world living with conditions that are little‑known, often misunderstood, and frequently life‑altering.

Rare diseases come in many forms — neurological, genetic, metabolic, muscular, and more.  Ehlers‑Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is one of the many rare conditions represented within our Flying Scholar community.

EDS affects connective tissue, often causing chronic pain, joint instability, fatigue, and a long journey to diagnosis. Yet the scholars who live with EDS have shown extraordinary determination — proving that a rare condition does not limit ambition or the ability to take on new challenges.

Over the years, FSDP has supported several scholars with EDS, each bringing courage, resilience, and a deep desire to push beyond the expectations placed on them. Their achievements in the cockpit and beyond remind us that rare conditions may shape someone’s path, but they do not define their potential.

On Rare Disease Day, we’re proud to celebrate them — and the wider EDS community — for their strength, their advocacy, and their refusal to let a rare diagnosis close the door on possibility.
