What happens when you mix passion for flying, unstoppable determination, and two aviation charities with hearts as big as the sky? You get something truly special.
The Mark Long Trust Launch Event, held on Saturday 10th January at the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa, honoured the memory of Squadron Leader Mark Long, who tragically lost his life in a Spitfire accident. The gathering reminded everyone of one powerful truth: the sky has no barriers.
For many scholarship recipients, this wasn’t just about climbing into a cockpit — it was about overcoming challenges that once felt immovable. Physical limitations, self‑doubt, and the echoes of “this might not be for you” were all left behind on the runway.
Thanks to the flying scholarship created by FSDP specifically for disabled people — and to the generous support of the Mark Long Trust, which sponsored their first scholarship in 2025 — dreams that once seemed out of reach are now cruising at altitude.
Our 2025 scholar, Mark Morris, was delighted to attend the launch event and represent the life‑changing impact of this opportunity.
What makes this moment even more meaningful is the long‑standing, deeply valued partnership between FSDP and the Mark Long Trust. This is not a one‑off collaboration — it is an enduring relationship built on shared values, mutual respect, and a joint commitment to opening aviation to those who might otherwise be left on the ground.
We are profoundly grateful for the Trust’s continued belief in our mission and for the legacy they are helping to build in Mark Long’s name.
Together, we’ve proven that:
Disability does not define potential
Aviation is for everyone
And when charities stand shoulder to shoulder, the impact multiplies
The Mark Long Trust event was filled with laughter, courage, and moments that captured why flying resonates so deeply with the human spirit — because it represents freedom.
Here’s to breaking barriers, backing each other, and continuing to open the skies to all.
When determination meets opportunity … anything can take off.
