What Flying Taught Me About Myself

Featuring: Rebecca Giddings – FSDP Scholar & Trustee

“The biggest thing my flying scholarship taught me was to stop looking back at the life I had and to stop trying to push myself to get back to that life. In order to move forward I had to accept that my life was different now — not better, not worse, just different. Flying helped me accept that and move on with my life. It enabled me to finish my PhD, become better at managing my health condition and the constant surgeries, and to become a proud trustee for FSDP.”

Rebecca’s story is a powerful reminder that flying doesn’t just lift you into the sky — it lifts you into a new understanding of who you are and what’s possible. Her courage, resilience, and commitment to giving back continue to inspire scholars, mentors, and trustees across our community.

We’re proud to have her guiding the charity she once joined as a scholar, proving that the cycle of support and transformation is very real.
